I think it would be best if the forum discussions were conducted in English only. While I understand that the FAQ is translated into multiple languages (which makes sense), the actual forum content is not — and that’s part of the problem.
Right now, people are starting threads in Polish, Italian, Czech, and other languages. This fragments the discussion and makes it hard for the community to engage with each other. For example, I don’t understand Italian or Polish, and I imagine users from those countries don’t understand Czech either.
Using English as the common language for discussions would help everyone participate equally and keep the forum inclusive and accessible.

I think at least the Czech language should stay. Plus English as an international language. I agree with the others.
Myslím, že minimálně čeština by měl zůstat. K tomu angličtina jako mezinárodní jazyk. S ostatním souhlasím.

Většina uživatelů i vývojářů jsou češi, takže čeština by měla zůstat.
Není problém, na jedno kliknutí si nechat přeložit text do svého jazyka. Mužete k tomu použít různé nástroje, podle své preference. Nebo když je něco nejasného, můžete vyzkoušet více překladačů.
Pokud budete nutit všechny překládat text do angličtiny už při zápisu, nějak to dokážou. Je v tom ale několik problémů:

Někoho to odradí úplně a nenapíše nic.

Někdo to v angličtině napíše, ale jen stručně, vynechá podrobnosti.

Někdo použije nedokonalý překladač. Tím dojde k neopravitelné ztrátě informace. Pokud dochází k překladu až při čtení, můžete různými překladači získat úplnou informaci.

I agree with both contributions. My mother tongue is German. I would understand English, but not Czech. In fact, I can have the Czech posts translated. But it would help me a lot if at least the headings were automatically translated into English, as I could then search for specific posts and have them translated.

S oběma příspěvky souhlasím. Mým rodným jazykem je němčina. Angličtině bych rozuměl, ale češtině ne. Vlastně si mohu nechat přeložit české příspěvky. Ale hodně by mi pomohlo, kdyby se do češtiny automaticky překládaly alespoň nadpisy, protože bych si pak mohl vyhledat konkrétní příspěvky a nechat si je přeložit. -
@Marian-Mrózek My native language is Polish and exactly, English should be the primary language on the forum. Maybe not out of obligation, but a desire to communicate, to convey information, to be understood. I understand that Czech language makes it possible to reach the creators of map.com, but it is good to remember that a post in English can help someone bystander who does not understand Czech, and consequently get to the answer faster. Well, and above all, the forum is used to create a community. If someone wants information in Czech they will actually find all the help outside this forum in direct communication to support.
To sum up: maps.com is so good that it has become international, and the forum serves to communicate not only with the creators. the lingua franca is currently English so it would be more nice to try to use a language that is understandable to the general public. -
@Martin-Pištora I understand that we can’t force everyone to write in a specific language (English), but I believe English should be the main language if mapy.com aims to be international.
The argument that the developers are Czech doesn’t really hold — I assume all of them speak English.
However, the current forum format unintentionally encourages everyone to post in their native language. That’s fine in theory, but in practice it fragments the discussion.
For example, imagine there’s a thread in Italian. You might translate it into Czech just to understand it, but if you want to reply, you’ll probably try to write in Italian to keep the discussion in that language - expecting other Italian users to respond. But writing in Czech and relying on machine translation into Italian could create even more confusion than simply using English, which most translation tools handle better and more reliably.
If things continue this way, in a few years the majority of posts may end up in Czech. I doubt foreign users will be willing to translate each individual post just to understand what’s being discussed.
As a possible solution, I’d suggest considering automatic translation integrated directly into the forum, similar to how YouTube comments work. This would allow users to write in their native language while readers could view the content in the language of their choice. But for this to work, the translation quality needs to be truly reliable - especially for titles and content important for search and context.
Until something like that is implemented, using English as the primary language is the most practical and inclusive way to keep the forum accessible to everyone.
