POI questions & suggestions
-
I have a few questions and suggestions for POIs.
1. Weather stations. It's nice to see that Mapy has been displaying Weather stations for some time now, but it seems its icons are unreasonably big as compared with, say, transmitter stations.
I believe weather stations are not of such great interest to most users that the icons should be that big, so I think Mapy could easily make them smaller. Picnic tables, for example, are more useful to Outdoor users, yet you reduced the size of those so much that they look as small as bench icons and are hart to spot, as they only display at (almost) the biggest zoom level.
2. Hunting blinds. How come you display icons for hunting blinds, yet to refuse to display hunting stands? Hunting blinds are not a whole lot different category than hunting stands, to be honest.
3. Defensive towers: the generic High-rise building icon just doesn’t fit for this.. it would look much better if something similar to OSM icon were introduced
Example:
https://www.openstreetmap.org/way/121890453
https://mapy.cz/s/dupupeluho4. Significant trees: currently there is 1 type of tree icon for any significant tree. It would be nice to introduce another icon to distinguish needleleaved trees from broadleaved. I’d suggest a spruce-like icon for the former:

So, no reply from Mapy team?

I'm afraid I’ll disappoint you, but what you’re suggesting are fine details that the vast majority of users don’t care about - including myself. In fact, I (and many others) find the POI icons on Mapy.com very well designed, whereas I personally consider the OSM icons quite unattractive in comparison.
The icons on Mapy.com are clear and well thought out. For example, the size difference you mention in your first point is something I honestly don’t even notice - both icons seem reasonably sized and easy to understand.
Someone at the Mapy.com team has to create and maintain all these icons, and as new POIs are added, more are constantly needed. It’s only natural that they won’t be spending time fine-tuning every visual detail like this. Right now, the team has a lot of more essential feature requests to deal with, and I believe I speak for the vast majority of users when I say we’d rather have them focus on those instead of spending time on such small tweaks.
That’s likely why no one from the team has responded. I'm sorry if this is disappointing to hear, but unfortunately, it's not possible to accommodate every suggestion.

Well, I never said I didn’t like the Mapy icons - in fact I find them really nice for the most part. It’s just that some of them would need to be tweaked for some improvement, most notably no. 3 (defensive towers - or Věžová stavba) from my first post, where the icon looks nothing like a defensive tower.
While I completely agree that there are more essential feature requests for them to deal with, my above post is more of a small suggestion for improvement. I’m not saying this should be implemented immediately, but just as a consideration. In return it's always nice to receive a short reply/feedback from someone from the team, hence my question above. After all, users play a significant role in improving the product.

@Matic-K. Thank You so much for Your thoughtful message and for being part of our awesome community – it truly means a lot to us!
We read all suggestions carefully and add them to our internal user wishlist. While we’d love to make everyone happy, we’re not able to implement everything, and in some cases we intentionally choose not to – simply because user preferences can be very different. One person wants the navigation voice to talk more, another one wants less; someone loves red icons, another prefers blue. So we try to strike a balance and make choices that will make the app better for most users.
That said, we really appreciate the kind way you shared your feedback. So thank you again. Together we’re making Mapy.com better every day!
