I am in a long hike, which is a very important project for me. I have quit my job and spent a lot of money and health to make it. I f up my feet. I was planning to describe it. I was careful to always have enough battery to track my hike, i even bought 20000mah heavy duty powerbank. But after nearly 150 kilometresb of walk in mostly difficult terrain, just in midway, a popup window asking if i want to keep the record track appeared. And it was this millisecond between my finger on a screen and a tap, just when i wanted to check the map. I accidentally pressed Cancel, because my finger was placed just over it on a map and that's it. It was gone. Preparations, three pairs of shoes. Blistered and bruised feet, 25 rolls of film, nothing made sense anymore. Is it fair to have it removed do easily? Accidentally? Fck this sht.

@wielki We’re really sorry this happened to you. We can absolutely understand how frustrating and heartbreaking it must feel after so much effort, pain, preparation and emotional investment in such an important journey.
Unfortunately, once a rejected track recording is discarded, it cannot be recovered anymore.
For very long hikes like yours, we strongly recommend:

        • splitting the planned route into several shorter sections/days,
        • splitting the track recording into several recordings as well.

Besides reducing the risk of losing a very large recording at once, the app usually performs better with shorter tracks and recordings.

Thank you for sharing this experience openly.

@Ewelina thank You for answer, but maybe consider just removing this popup? It does not improve anything. Or maybe add a second chance, like "Are you sure?"

            That is really unfortunate.

The popup window is already the confirmation step. You first have to tap the "Discard" button and then the red "Discard" confirmation button, as shown in the screenshot.

            img.png

That said, I agree that an additional confirmation step would not hurt. An even better solution would be a "Recycle Bin" feature that would handle this more comprehensively. Even on the web version, when something is deleted, it is currently permanent. Perhaps we'll get a recycle bin one day — Mapy.com is a dynamically evolving product, and this topic has already been discussed in other forum threads.

As Ewelina mentioned, if a recording is important and irreplaceable, it should be finished and backed up regularly, ideally every day. The safest approach is to save it to another device (for example, a USB drive) as an exported GPX file. If internet access is available, it is also a good idea to let the recording synchronize to the web (cloud storage).

For a hike of this magnitude, I would personally use at least two independent recordings: a dedicated rugged outdoor GPS device as the primary recorder, with the phone serving only as a backup. Dedicated GPS devices usually provide more reliable track recording than mobile phones, which are not primarily designed for this purpose.

I know that none of this helps with the track you have already lost. However, it is sometimes possible to recreate a recording afterwards. In your case, with a route of around 150 km, that may be difficult unless you remember the route very accurately. If most of it followed marked trails and only some sections were off-trail, it may still be possible.

The route can be recreated by planning it exactly as you walked it, using a combination of routed paths and manual drawing where necessary. Once the track is complete, a start and end time can be added. This creates an activity file that can then be imported into Mapy.com or other applications.

If you would like to try this, it can be done on gpxmapy.cz. Click "fast functions" → "other steps" → "creating an activity – adding times". The process is described there in detail. The instructions for creating a new path also contain some brief tips for mixed route planning.

However, this should definitely be done day by day — one accepted track per day. That way, the time tags do not include overnight breaks and the calculated average speeds remain realistic. Individual daily paths can later be merged into a single path if needed.
