FPS drops on Pixel 10 when panning dense map
-
Hi,
I have noticed heavy FPS drops on my Pixel 10 when panning across areas with lots of detail, like the Alps with dense contour lines. In these spots, the frame rate drops from a smooth 60 FPS down to about 10–20 FPS (see attached screenshots).
Forcing the app to use the ANGLE driver instead of the default OpenGL driver in Android's Developer Options (ANGLE Preferences) completely fixes this issue, and I get a stable 60 FPS again.
Since the Pixel 10 and 11 switched to PowerVR GPUs, it seems like their default OpenGL driver struggles a bit when rendering lots of map elements at once, whereas routing it through ANGLE runs smoothly. Google has already rolled out a major GPU driver update for the Pixel 10 and this issue still happens, so a future OS update from Google's side probably won't resolve it.
Could you check with the Android devs to see if they'd be willing to enable ANGLE by default, at least for Pixel 10 and 11 users?
Thanks!
