WEB WASM Route name display much worse after switch to vector tiles
-
WIth the introduction of vector tiles in Web Mapy, there are 2 things that immediately caught my attention:
GOOD: the topography/relief looks better than before
BAD: Hiking route names often don’t display at all, or only appear after meticulously zooming in and out until you happen to hit a specific, seemingly random zoom level where the route name will appear. This is very frustrating and impractical for users.
Route names should be easy to spot at a glance. Users shouldn’t have to spend time repeatedly adjusting the zoom just to get a route name to appear. No one will really spend time doing that. I'm not saying it's always bad, but often it seems not to work as it should with the vector raster. The previous raster map displayed route names much more clearly and reliably - for example at z=15, 16, 17; the new vector map feels like a significant step backward in this regard.
I really hope you can improve it soon (and same would apply to the Mobile App as well).
Below are a few examples:
LEFT: vector vs RIGHT: old raster -- see how you can easily see the red route names on the old raster (z=15 but you can see it fine at z=16 and 17 as well) but nothing to be seen on vector tiles! https://mapy.com/s/hufajucubu

Another one:
LEFT: vector vs. RIGHT: old raster. No matter how much I zoom in or out, the route names on the below lower route won't display on the vector map!

And many more examples. Not happy at all.
I hope a fix is being worked on. Looking forward to hearing from you.

@Matic-K. Yes, text placement along lines has been optimized over many years for raster maps. With vector maps, where everything changes dynamically with every tiny adjustment to the zoom level, it’s a more complex task. There’s certainly room for improvement, and we’re aware of it, but it will take time to get there. Thanks for your patience.
